Former Patriots’ Star Stephen Gilmore Opens Up About Bill Belichick
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Former New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore wants everyone to know that Bill Belichick was a fantastic head coach.

Belichick was cast in a rather negative light in the recent Patriots miniseries called “The Dynasty,” which Gilmore recently watched.

It seems like the content didn’t really sit well with the defensive back, who took to social media to defend Belichick on Friday.

“Just watched The Dynasty. Bill was the greatest coach I’ve ever been around. Don’t let that fool you,” Gilmore posted to his X account. “I’ll never forget we were a predominantly man team during the 2018 season all the way up to the Super Bowl. When we played the Rams we switched to Zone.”

Gilmore spent four seasons in New England between 2017 and 2020, which happened to be the best run of his NFL career.

During his time with the Pats, Gilmore made three trips to the Pro Bowl while earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections. Most importantly, he helped lead the Patriots to a championship during the 2018-19 campaign, as he mentioned.

The 33-year-old most recently played for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, appearing in every game and registering 68 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a forced fumble and 13 passes defended.

He currently remains unsigned.

Meanwhile, New England parted ways with Belichick after he spent 24 seasons as the club’s head coach. Throughout his illustrious tenure in Foxborough, Belichick led the Pats to six Super Bowl championships, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East division titles.

It’s clear that Stephon Gilmore certainly appreciates Bill Belichick.
